ABOUT LEOS

WHERE’S THERE’S A NEED, THERE ARE LEOS!

  • Leos are not only among the youngest members of the Lions International family, they are the future changemakers, and their new beginnings are the ignition of a spark that begins their journey of leadership, compassion, and service. By wearing the badge, they step into a global legacy of impact; LEOs stand for Leadership, Experience, and Opportunity, and they become the living heartbeat of that legacy.
  •   • Leadership – developing skills by leading projects and teams
      • Experience – engaging in community service and real-world initiatives
      • Opportunity – building networks, Self confidence, and personal growth
In a world shaped by rapid change, evolving social challenges and constant connection, Leos bring service, leadership and new ideas together. They are young leaders who don’t wait for change, they help create it through meaningful service.

A LEGACY EVOLVING SINCE 1957

Abington Senior High School Leo Club was the world's first Leo Club founded in Pennsylvania in 1957. Sponsored by the Glenside Lions Club, it was initiated by baseball coach Jim Graver and fellow Lion William Ernst to foster youth leadership. From then till now, the Leo program has continued to evolve to meet the needs of communities.

Together, Leos and Lions form a strong, future-focused partnership built on mentorship, collaboration and shared purpose. Lions bring decades of service experience and guidance, while Leos contribute energy, new perspectives and bold ideas, making this partnership more important than ever.
Today’s Leos are:

  •   • Community builders addressing local needs with a broader, global perspective
  •   • Social innovators developing service projects that respond to today’s challenges
  •   • Digital advocates using modern tools and communication to expand awareness and participation
  •   • Future leaders gaining real-world skills through hands-on service and leadership opportunities

With more than six decades of impact, Leos are not only continuing a legacy; they are helping shape it for a new generation. They are mindful that service is not only about giving, but about growing; every step they take will shape them into confident and compassionate individuals. They are encouraged not merely to follow paths, but to create them, allowing innovation and empathy to guide their leadership, because the world needs self-driven spirits like theirs.

WHY LEOS MATTER MORE THAN EVER

The world today demands more than intention, it demands action, empathy and leadership.

Leo clubs play an important role by:

  • Helping develop future leaders through service
  • Giving young people opportunities to engage in purpose-driven service early in life
  •   • Building stronger, service-minded communities
  • Strengthening intergenerational collaboration through mentorship and shared projects

Leos are not just part of the Lions story; they are helping shape its future.
